Thanks for your comments. Not much of a guess to think this was about Maddy and me. I wouldn't have been offended if you mentioned our names. As they say, "as long as you spell them correctly" (Madeleine O'Connell and Mike Keene).
I don't agree with the comments on the curating of the show. We felt that we show very well together, and that part of the impact was the very lush atmosphere created in the gallery. Sometimes breaking the rules can be more effective than following the standard formula of the antiseptic white gallery. After all, we are an alternative coop gallery.
Also, thank you for coming in to the gallery in the first place. Many of us in the alternative art scene feel that the so-called art critics are nothing more than spokesmodels for the large establish organizations and have lost much of their credibility along with the rest of the old school media.
I encourage you to come in to see each and every show in the Navajo Arts District and all of the alternative galleries, write about us as often as you'd like.

I think we all can learn from a negative experience. Sometimes we have to fall down in order to learn how to get back up.
GODs Image is a young hip hop gospel group from Richmond,VA that has had many ups & downs, despite all downfalls they have manage to continue their efforts with the opening their new music school, BGC School Of The Arts.

What a good question. I couldn't sleep this evening my mind was thinking about my 8th grade art teacher, who happened to be a distant cousin, and helped shape my career and gave me the courage to become an artist. I haven't seen her since(I hate to say this)1967. I have tried to find her for years with no success.

I found an old signature book from 8th grade a couple of weeks ago and low and behold she signed my book. I now have the correct spelling of her name and searched the internet. I think I have found her, though I haven't tried to contact her yet. I was the "class pet" way back then. It was great.

Due to my family art eluded me for many years, but I always thought of myself as an artist because of Miss Colangelo.

It took years but I finally got my BA in Art and have been in many shows.

Art is again eluding me due to family issues, the economy, etc.
I've pushed myself to join an Art group in Bartlett. I design and publish their newsletter. It's my way back into my art again. I can't say when it will be back in my life again, but hopefully soon. I feel lost without it.

I am in the process of getting a master's degree in Communication Arts, Advertising, and PR. That has helped fill the void a little, but doesn't give me much time for my art.

I am an artist, I always was an artist, I will always be an artist, thanks to Lenice Colangelo.

Yea but the people that buy this art are not art lovers they are investors. If they were art lovers they would just buy the art they like not just these crazy priced works.

Hi there Greg,
I just came across your article. I was a member of EDGE for over 13 years, and I decided to become an Associate member of NEXT gallery. By being an associate member of NEXT, one is able to have their work exhibited on the back wall (similar to Zip) on a regular basis. I liked being a member of both galleries. Mostly because of the sense of community. Both galleries offered me an opportunity to meet more artists and receive a wonderful sense of community. Thank you. Sincerely, Sara-Lou Klein.
