Dancing Elements

How can two pieces of art represent the same thing?  That's exactly the question that Linda Campbell Reilly asks in her show Transformations.  As a textile artist, Linda takes photographs of meaningful sites and translates them to fiber.  It's an interesting use of photo transfer techniques.  These techniques have come a long way from iron on decals so many of our t-shirts were adorned with many moons ago.

The show is a good juxtaposition between what appears to be hard surfaces in the photographs along with their softer translations.  Linda has a good eye for capturing elements she wants to interpret in her work.  You can tell as you move through the gallery that this was a personal journey and it is with reverence that all should view the work.  It was like looking through a keyhole into someone's life.

We all have our favorite parts of creating art and in textile art I personally am more taken by stitching than anything else and I'd have like to see more of that in this work.  I'll be interested to see if the work evolves on a more personal level which would be daring and could be very evocative or more statement oriented giving us a commentary on her world view.

I believe this is a great jumping off place for the story and a technique that can evolve into new findings both personally and artistically.
