Who Should Get Credit for Inspiration

I attended a lecture this week, "Artistic Practice and Contemplative Practice".  If we look at where inspiration comes from we need to ask ourselves if we're the conduit or the originator.  I guess the answer depends on your religious or spiritual beliefs and the messages you receive from modern media.

One of the artists discussed was Minor White, a photographer.  When I came home I wanted to learn more about what inspired the artist and see more of his work.  What I found was a bio that discussed his deeply religious life and the fact that he spent his entire life on a spiritual journey.  Then I came upon the following quote that really punctuated his world view...

"No matter how slow the film, Spirit always
stands still long enough for the photographer
        IT has chosen."

I guess we know what side of the fence he falls on when it comes to the origin of inspiration.  Do you ever wonder where your inspiration comes from?  Are you grateful for the inspiration you receive no matter the source?  If we're not grateful for the inspiration, aren't we in danger of losing it?

I'm not trying to be coy, but let's face it, art is an internal process that can be rough or refined.  Isn't it a mirror for what we're experiencing in our lives?  Isn't our art just a reflection of the dialogue we have between our body, mind and our source of inspiration?

Listening for the next whisper of inspiration...
