The Magic of Gelatin
Opportunities abound in the world to learn new things providing new challenges and methods enabling us to expand our artistic repertoire. This week I attended a demo on using gelatin as a printing service for fabric. It's interesting to see what you can create with a gelatin base...yes, gelatin like the kind in Jello without the color and flavoring.
The demo was very well attended. Folks were interested in how to utilize this technique to include printmaking in their textile art. Even more importantly, they were able to practice the technique so that when they return to their studios they can replicate the procedure. It's important to keep adding to your arsenal of knowledge. If you don't continue adding new things you'll get stale and that isn't good for your or your art business.
I believe there is a strong interest in printmaking and this method of creating monoprints is evidence that is the case. There are lots of opportunities to learn printmaking and by this demo you don't always need a press to make the outcome favorable.
What are you doing to add to your arsenal? How have you put a new twist on old techniques giving your work a feeling of renewal and freshness? What will you learn to keep yourself fully engaged in your art?
Looking for the next best thing...
