Reconnecting

This week, and it's only Wednesday, I've had some great experiences and lots of things brewing in the mix as the weekend approaches.  I was thrilled to run into someone who has been a part of the Artist Success Studio calls and we had a chance to catch up.  I love hearing the artists path of development because it always gives me new ideas and opportunities arise out of those ideas.

When artists talk about their paths of development, if they are truly connected to it they light up.  I find that the person starts talking a little faster and you can see the ideas percolating in their head.  What I love to see when I have these conversations with artists I feel "get it", is that they understand it is a "path" of development.  It's not like instant mashed potatoes where you just add water.  Each artist has to look at their personal needs and wants and then comprise a vision for the course they will follow to their own definition of success.

What I appreciated hearing about this artist's path was that he wasn't rushing anything.  He is playing with a lot of ideas and meeting lots of people but he's not jumping into the entrepreneurial end before looking at all his options and figuring what will provide him the best outcome possible.  He understands that it's not just the intention but the willingness to question your own motives and look in the mirror to see if you're really cut out for the life of a "working artist".

Give yourself a gift and carefully consider why it means so much to you to be a "working artist".  See how much of it is desire, talent or is it ego?  If the answer is ego run the other direction because your life will be filled with struggle.  If you believe that you can't think of anything else you would do for a livelihood and you're willing to put in the sweat equity then I wish you the greatest success.

Love hearing your stories...
