Fringe Benefits
"The Art..." has been used in many different arenas. There is Sun Tzu's "The Art of War", Debra Fine's "The Art of Small Talk", just to give you an example. As artists we know that there is the art of art. What most artists don't consider when they are working to build a network is "The Art of Networking". Networking can probably be considered both a science and an art because if you are conscious about your decisions that's the science end of it. There is a systematization that takes place and things follow the course of action. Of course there is the art of networking that some people are naturally gifted at and by establishing networks get better exposure for their art.
A couple of months ago I attended an art exhibit and then I wrote an entry about my experience. It was passed around to several members of the group and one artist has made a point of keeping me in her loop. The reason this is important is what you bring to consciousness is what catches your attention.
Kay Tuttle,www.kaytuttle.com, invited me to a talk she was giving at a local group this past week. Unfortunately I was unable to make it but I am grateful for the invitation. It put Kay much more prominently on my radar screen. Just to show you how what you're conscious about pops up...I attended a lecture by the juror of the All Colorado Show. I didn't know who was selected but when I rounded the corner I saw a piece that caught my eye. When I looked at the tag on the wall it said "Merci, Lapin", mixed, Kay Tuttle. Is it coincidence...not really. Now that Kay is a bigger blip on my radar screen it's not a surprise that I am more aware of her work and am becoming more familiar with her work. It's the fringe benefit of keeping people in your circle updated and included in your process.
I don't think that Kay felt that by inviting me I would write about her and that this entry will be seen by over one thousand people in the next month. That's very attractive that the process is organic and again the fringe benefit is that hopefully by reading this you'll go check out Kay's website and see what she's up to. This is how artists become successful, by building their network of people and even some like have pretty long arms in the art world. Don't ever underestimate the power of your network, they can be the make or break point of your career.
Staying connected...

coaching artists to success
Living consciously seems to really be catching on these days since popularity of "The Secret Movie". The metaphysical laws that have existed since the beginning of time with a different spin. It's all good because we can never be reminded too much that we attract what we put out. And, more awareness creates more consciousness, which in turn could be another book.... "How to Paint Like Yourself". Of course this is an impossible task unless you know who you "is". I'm happy to see Mary Tuttle's web site. I can look at her work and see it is conceived of love and noncontrivation.(I know this word isn't in the dictionary, but it should be

Hi Greg,
Thank you so much for your nice comments about networking, and sending out my web page address. I greatly appreciate it. I am actually very shy, and networking, with a capital N, is intimidating to me. I would much rather be in my studio painting. But, when I think, well these people are interesting, and have different insights, and I would like to talk with them and hear what they have to say, it becomes something enjoyable. Really an opportunity to meet insightful and engaged people.
Thank you again, and I hope one day to meet in person.
Kay
