What a difference a year makes?

Do we really learn from our mistakes?  Are we able to correct the things that short circuit our success?  If you went to the BFA exhibition at Regis University last year and this year the answer is yes...the differences were enormous.

The big major improvement was the postcard invitation.  It had a picture montage of the seven students graduating.  The back of the card listed the names in the order they appeared on the front.  I'm sure you're laughing at me as to why I'm making such a big deal about this but I find it frustrating when I don't know who the artists are?  Who am I going to ask all my questions about future prospects, goals and dreams after spending an enormous amount of money on an education?

The artists still didn't have name tags but if you carried the postcard then you could decipher the code and figure out whose photo matched to the names on the wall.  I did find the artists more interested in standing near their art, making themselves available for questions and comments.  I even saw some of them walk away from their exhibit pieces but kept one eye on their area and when someone would approach their pieces they would go back to be present for those admiring their work.

Two artists deserve special mention.  Bonnie Fruland creates sculptures, life size (or close) of people made out of glass and accented with felted wool.  Her piece "Struggle" gave you both the magnificent aesthetic but also a fully loaded emotionality that pulled at your from the inside out.  The piece is of a person on the floor, crawling.  You get to decide where or why the figure is crawling.  It's all set on a black velvet drop.

The other artist is Maria Ismert.  Maria is a pastel artist, not an easy medium, and yet she has worked hard to gain tremendous control over the medium.  Her piece "Freeze" caught me from across the room.  It made me think of what happens when you focus a camera on one subject and then move the lens and shoot the picture.  In this painting the flower is in focus and everything else is out of focus but still has its distinguishing characteristics.  Maria said she'd like to go to South America for a while...hope we still get to see more of her work.

Kudos to Regis...

This feedback is very helpful.  I will try when possible to get some pictures because not everyone can be everywhere I am at any given time.  It may not be possible in the galleries because gallery owners have a sense of guardianship for the artists copyright.  I can certainly provide websites when available of the artists making a splash in the art community.

Keep looking out for more venues and let me know where I need to be!
