One Hand Washes the Other

It's really important to look at the businesses we support as artists because we like to believe that life is equitable.  Our natural assumption would be that we support business and either they support us back directly or there is a round robin effect where another business returns the positive energy.

I have found this to be true with Meiningers, a local art supply store.  All of the artists I meet have at least been to Meiningers and have made their regular deposits at the store's cash registers.  Is it fair to expect something in return, not necessarily, does the store give back to the community?  The answer is a big Yes.

Aside from the donations the store makes to the arts community they are currently sponsoring in-store events that are great.  They are half-way through a four part series on the business of art (I'll be speaking on Saturday, April 28th at 1pm).  On Saturday they had Bill Amundson, a talented colored pencil artist give a demo and talk about his process.  The amazing thing is that these opportunities are free.  There's no excuse why you can't keep your curiosity satisfied.

I attended the demo/talk by Bill and he was very amusing.  Consider this, I'm a textile artist and yet I still gained tons of information and insight hearing a colored pencil artist tell about his journey.

Look for those who support artists or be aware of how the energy is returned to you by others such as collectors/patrons etc.  Energy is energy so we've got to keep it moving!

Grateful...
