Anonymity Defeats the Purpose of Exposure
I spend a lot of time in the library. I love to read but over the past couple of years I've found that the library is a great place to see original art. I live in Douglas County and the libraries often have solo exhibitions of local artists. I happened in to the Lone Tree branch and found artwork that looked very familiar to me. I went up and examined the art and I was pretty sure of who the artist was but I wanted to be sure.
I ventured over to the library staff to ask about the artist and there was a pause like they had gotten their hands caught in the cookie jar. They were kind of embarrassed when one of the staff said I believe her first name is Deidre. Say no more I knew exactly who the artist was and was thrilled to see her work on display.
I e-mailed the artist to let her know the status of her anonymity and she informed me of all the ways the library was going to showcase her work. The question is who will hold them accountable for the getting all the artist information available to the public. Exposure doesn't count if there's no way to connect the artist to the art. Yes that's right, one more task for the artist on their way to success and fame.
Make sure you're acknowledged...
