Focus Can Make All The Difference
While on vacation I had a couple of minutes before dinner and when I turned on the TV I found on the ship's own loop a show about Robert Wyland. He has been creating artwork for over thirty years and his subject matter is under the sea. He is known for his murals of whales. These murals are called "Whaling Walls".
Wyland (as he's referred to) founded an entire art career on one subject matter. I know many artists are concerned about getting pigeon holed but it's obviously worked for him. He's nationally and internationally known and he seems to have a waiting list for cities that want the side of a building painted with one of his murals.
Like Ansel Adams, Wyland has not only identified himself as an artist but as a person devoted to underwater life. He isn't only capturing their images, he's capturing their environments and their lives. He has several galleries and both paints and sculpts. Yes, he has chosen one subject matter, but that's been his choice. He chose the whale as the object of his desire and has perfected the nuance of the creature.
I was once told that you know you've achieved success when you're asked to do the same thing over and over. I guess that places Wyland in the success category. Would you be willing to take that risk? Go check him out on the web and see if his model for success is something that appeals to you and is a viable opportunity for you.
