Sometimes Space is the Answer

When CoArt Gallery, a collective opened I went in to support the artists.  I wanted to see what this new co-op would be like and I was horrified.  There were lots of artists work in the gallery and there was a lot of art in the gallery.  I met one of the artists at a speaking engagement and when she told me that she belonged to that gallery I told her that I found it to be disappointing in appearance...it looked like a flea market.

Last week walking down the street I glanced in the window and saw a shift in the gallery's philosophy.  They had curated the gallery in an orderly, eye appealing manner.  When they re-organized the gallery they made it possible for people to see the art work instead of trying to figure out a way to heal from sensory overload.  I guess they realized that image is important and that if something looks unprofessional or unkept then the public will attribute those qualities to the work and the artists.

Providing space for the art gives the public the opportunity to ask for more and to want to see more.  Think of it like the samples you get when you go to Costco....they don't give you enough to fill enough but just enough to tantalize your taste buds and get you interested.  Mystery serves a purpose.

Pleased that Co-Art came to their senses!

Relieved...
