Best Foot Forward

I'm surprised when artist don't understand the importance of putting their best foot forward when exhibiting in a group show.  Spark is currently holding a member's show and since the work isn't juried in, at least I'm assuming that the artists submit the piece they want exhibited that they wouldn't go for the WOW factor.

When a co-op gallery has a member show as a member I would want the public to see the best possible piece I have available.  It's your one shot to make potential collectors or other interested parties want to see more of your work when your individual show comes up in queue.  I was even more surprised because I've been to many of the shows held by the artists currently showing and overall was left with a lack luster feeling.  I know these artists have better to show so I didn't feel teased in any way.

It's an important lesson as more and more co-op galleries pop up across the country.  Do what you want when you have the entire gallery to experiment, but be sure and give the world your absolute best when you have one piece to give us what your artistic vision is so we are encouraged or expected to ask for more.

Disappointed...
