Is the Big Pay Off Always In Our Best Interest?
We are all striving for success and there are many ways to achieve it. Some of us will be discovered by some force that will propel us into the spotlight and our notoriety will soar. Others of us may believe that's the path we want but is it possible that if we don't get that immediate jackpot that something bigger and greater awaits us?
Today I went to see the movie Dreamgirls. I had seen the Broadway show many years ago and I listen to the soundtrack often. When I heard they were making the show a movie I was thrilled and then the news broke that Jennifer Hudson would play the role of Effie White, the role originated on Broadway by Jennifer Holliday.
I've seen and read many interviews over the past few weeks about Jennifer Hudson in this role and have been patiently awaiting my turn at the theater to experience her magic for myself. Jennifer Hudson became known to many when she was a contestant on American Idol Season 3. She got kicked out the running way before her time but I can tell you the Universe had bigger plans for her and I'm glad she didn't win American Idol.
Jennifer Hudson is amazing in this role. She embodies the soul of the character and has a voice that is strong, powerful and soulful. Her performance is inspiring. In one interview I saw she talked about beating out 782 other actresses for this role. In an article I read that Jamie Foxx didn't want her for the role. In spite of all the challenges she eventually got the call that she would play Effie White.
I have a renewed faith that the quick and easy success isn't always in our best interest. I believe that the Universe will spare us from temporary success for a more meaningful and sustainable success. I believe that our talent is meant to soar and that's my wish for you...that you have the patience, tenacity, faith, hope and good sense to plan for a life of sustained success instead of believe the sugar high kind of success with the big crash that follows is a good thing.
Believe that great things are waiting for you! Believe that you have the courage to find your rightful place in the art world! Believe that as an artist you have a message for the world that you are willing to share not because you can, but because you have to. If you believe and do those things I believe you'll have the kind of success Jennifer Hudson will achieve following this role in Dreamgirls!
I believe....
