Passion and Devotion
I know that artists love what they do, but when you meet someone whose energy erupts like a volcano it's inspiring. I went to hear the monthly artist talk hosted by Eric Matelski. His guest was Agnes Sanchez, a very enthusiastic glass blower....www.agnesofglass.com.
The evening started with a video of Agnes in her element. I love the video portion because most of the artists have taken the opportunity to make it fun and personal. What we saw last night is obviously a piece used for potential clients because it showed all aspects of Agnes' art life, including teaching students. I felt the video was too long considering the format. But that's not the focus of the evening...the focus was Agnes.
From her Medusa like hair to the passion in her voice there is no mistaking this woman for a run of the mill artist. She graduated from school in 2000 and over the past six years has seen an explosion in her work and the opportunities that present themselves. The most intriguing part of the evening was Agnes' interaction with people who enter her studio. She's obviously very good at creating a warm and welcoming environment because the people who pass through her doors are the one's giving her the scoop on exhibition and public art projects. It definitely helps to have people who will serve as another set of eyes for you as your building your art business.
Eric asked her about future goals and the two she shared that were more short-term were: to turn the studio into a school and share more of her love of glass blowing and to begin selling her pieces on the internet. Her long-term goal is to go live in Europe and work amongst some of the most famous glass blowers in the world.
She's energetic and articulate and talented...what a great combo for success.
Blown Away...
