Who Would Know?

One of the advantages of being on a lot of mailing lists is that I get announcements about lots of art openings.  I'm happy to see so many artists showing their work all around the city.  I'm especially impressed when an artist finds a new opportunity and lets the rest of us in on the secret.

This weeks find was the Catwalk Gallery above the Denver Book Mall.  If you didn't know the Denver Book Mall you wouldn't think to look inside for a gallery.  Place gallery lights along the white brick walls in a balcony overlooking the first floor and poof you have a gallery.  I think it's an inventive space because you can walk across the "catwalk" to the other side of the gallery to get great views of the opposing wall.  There is an openness because it is open to the first floor and the place feels expansive.

Patricia Zilinski, oil painter, is presenting a new show titled "A Fine Line: Between Reality and Abstraction".  When I first met Patricia she was in her studio at Workspace 38.  She shared with me her painting style and her love of fiber work.  She still is a weaver, but it's her oil paintings that carry you off to play with your own imagination.

My favorite piece in the show is "I Didn't Get to Go to Italy".  It's big and vibrant.  It brings her interpretation front and center, no guessing.  I am drawn to Patricia's use of bold color.  When you see the show you'll see varying size of the paintings and colorations of the work making the show interesting.  It's not like looking at 20 paintings of the mountains.

Go check out this new space...maybe you'll want to show your work there !

Feel like an explorer...
Greg
