Exposed

I get excited when artists find new venues to show their work because it's like creating a macro-medium for the art.  As the artist when you work with the curator/coordinator of a venue you need to decide how many pieces, which pieces, and is there a cohesive component to the work.  It's a creation unto itself and Jeff Ball tackled all of them artfully in his show at MYNT, a nightclub on Market Street.

Jeff's photographs are personal and yet have a universality to them that draws you into a world beyond the photograph.  This particular show utilizing a fish=eye lens creates a depth in the work that invites you to crawl into the photo to look beyond the image at what could be around the corner, both literally and in your own projective world.

The venue compliments the tone of the work and coupling art with a relaxed environment changes your perspective.  Showing at MYNT really shows that art is accessible and meant for everyone.  It provides the viewer to experience the art with a different lens, one more generalizable in the world and therefore the art becomes a natural part of your life.  It shows that art is for everyone and every location.

Obviously getting to meet the artist and hear about the work is the cherry on top of the sundae.  My personal favorites in the show are "Spiral to Heaven" and "Typhoid Illusions of Self".  I encourage you to see the work, have a cocktail and figure out where in your life...home or work these works of art would enhance your life.

Captured by the moment...
