What Part Does Geography Play in Success?

It's not often that a husband and wife team choose to show simultaneously at a gallery but that's the current exhibit at Edge Gallery.  Russell and Sara-Lou McKlayer have put two shows forth with very different world views.  Russell's work has a true political bent and Sara-Lou has a more introspective world view.  Their styles are also very different.  Russell is a bit more severe and Sara-Lou has a child-like appreciation in her work.

The real question I have is why is Sara-Lou showing at Edge Gallery.  A few months ago she was showing at NEXT Gallery, directly across the street from Edge.  Does she feel that she'll get a different audience?  If so, I believe that thought process is faulty.  There are only four galleries in this area so I can't believe that anyone attending the shows that goes to one doesn't go to the others.

Does she have a large enough collector base that gallery showing in one part of town is sufficient?  Truly, I ask these questions from curiosity.  It's me trying to understand on a deeper level the artist's mentality for achieving success.  I've asked artists who show at both CORE and NEXT why two co-ops that are related and they have told me that the Highlands District and the Santa Fe District attract two different audiences.  That I understand...I can't believe the east side of the street gets a different audience than the west side of the same street.

Perplexed...
Greg
