This Guy is the Real Deal

The Other Side Arts (TOSA) in Aurora has found a true gem when they booked Fernando Duran-Alcantar for his first solo show.  I love to observe the artist in their element, or at least what I hope is their element when they have a show opening.  Everything about Fernando was on the mark.  In fact, Fernando is my poster child for how an artist should be engaged during a show opening.

The show Fernando is showing consists of four stories.  The show is hung beautifully and there is a nice fluidity in the work both because he has themes hung together and within each theme the pieces are similar sizes.  There is an energy in the work that reflects his energy if you get to meet him in person.

Throughout the evening Fernando was a true host.  He welcomed his guests to the show.  He tried to personally connect with his guests throughout the evening to make introductions (that's how I met his wife), to answer questions about the work or to steer guests in the direction of prints he had for sale.

His guests spoke both English and Spanish and when addressing the crowd he  addressed the audience in both languages, very inclusive.  His charm and his talent compliment each other.  He has a vision not only for the paintings yet to be done, but for his career and how he set spelled out his intentions clearly and eloquently.

I look forward to following Fernando's career...it's going to be great!  I hope you get the chance to see the show but most importantly, get to know Fernando and hear the stories.

Thrilled to pieces...
Greg

    Greg,

Thanks for your words on this review. They are a reassurance as well as a recommitment to my original goal of becoming what I am intending to become. Your words high light the purpose of doing things for an intended audience, which responded in a way that exceeded my personal expectations. Your words add both encouraging and constructive responsibility to my career's future. Thanks for your ideas, your conversation that day, for observing, for looking at the whole picture, for interacting and for being part of that opening evening.
It has been a pleasure meeting you and hope to prolong this experience,
    Fernando Duran-Alcantar, Artist

I think it's great when an artist has a personal vision for their art and their business.  Being multi-dimensional is what being an artist is all about so incorporating these aspects into your "big picture" is terrific.  It's important for all of us as artists to find those people who will support our vision and keep us in motion moving closer and closer to our personal definition of success.

      Keep up the great work!
