The Many Faces of Ayn
How many looks can one person have? If you ask Ayn Toppin I believe the answer would be infinite. I was at the opening of her show at Weilworks which is both the gallery, studio and residence of artist Tracy Weil. Ayn's work circles up the staircase, onto the landing and up to the lookout tower of the gallery space.
As I was wandering up the flight of stairs I came across a painting that stopped me in my tracks. Fortunately there were to chairs facing the painting so I could sit down and really look at the painting. It's titled "To Whom It May Concern". It looks like someone is held captive, is blind folded and is sending a message to family, friends and fellow countrymen.
The piece is very powerful given our nations current point in history. I loved having one figure for all different looks because it really opens you up to the question...What's possible.
Impressed...
